Frenship FFA Teams Place in State Leadership Contests

Congratulations to the Frenship High School Senior Chapter Conducting team and Broadcasting team who both placed at the Texas FFA State Leadership Development Event competition last weekend at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville.

The FHS Broadcasting team of Austin Phillips, Erika Bickerstaff, Whitney Connors and alternate Jake Davis finished in fourth place at the state contest. Broadcasting consists of a team of three members who present an informative radio program covering one or more agricultural subjects that is current in nature and local in content. The contest assumes that the chapter has a regularly scheduled non-commercial radio program once each month over a local station.

Their fourth place finish at state comes after a second place at District and first place at Area. The team is coached by Lisa Skinner.

The Senior Chapter Conducting team brought home a seventh place finish at state to cap off the year where they won first place at both District and Area. In this competition, teams conduct a mock chapter meeting to demonstrate knowledge of basic parliamentary law and the use of correct parliamentary procedures. At the conclusion of the meeting, team members are asked questions regarding parliamentary law.

FHS Senior Chapter Conducting team members include Kooper Bowen, Sam Wollard, Brittany James, Ellen Stuart, Riley Krueger, Kameryn Slayton, Emily Stuart, Rachel Crandall, Shelby Ford, and Kendall Braune. They are coached by Brent McFarland and Andrew Hokanson.

According to the Texas FFA website, Leadership Development Events focus on creating situations for members to demonstrate their abilities in public speaking, decision making, communication and their knowledge of agriculture and the FFA organization. Team and individual events are used to reinforce what is taught in agricultural science classrooms.
