Get to Know Me!

Hello! My name is Candice Moates. The 2023-2024 school year will begin my 11th year teaching and my 5th year here at Frenship High School. I absolutely love teaching English and helping my students understand how what we learn in class can truly impact their lives outside of the classroom. My class motto is "Stay weird." This encompasses me as a person and also the environment in my room. I want my students to feel free to be themselves and genuinely just have a good time while they learn.

I have two adorable boys! Levi (7) and Dakotah (4). I was blessed with being able to adopt them both in November of 2021. I spend most of my free time enjoying moments with them, but I also love attending concerts, singing, and hanging out with my friends. I was born and raised here in Lubbock and graduated from Monterey HS in 2005. I received my bachelors degree in 2012 in English and earned my masters in 2016 in curriculum and instruction.

As well as teaching Resource English, I also am a case manager for many SPED students who are not in my class.  Throughout the school year, I check in with them and their teachers so see if there is anything we can do to make their learning easier. Please encourage your SPED students to be advocates for themselves, and please email me if you have any concerns.
