My name is Greg Hernandez, and I am starting my 34th year in education. The 2023-2024 school year will be my ninth year at Frenship High School as its principal.   Previously, I served as principal for Frenship Heritage Middle School from 2011 to 2015. Prior to taking the principal position at Heritage, I served as an assistant principal at Frenship High School from 2005-2010.

I graduated high school from Roscoe High. Upon graduating, I enlisted in the U.S. Army and served for three years where I learned about self-discipline, honor, and country.  After being honorably discharged, I attended Texas Tech University and received a Bachelor of Arts and Science in Education in 1990. I earned my Master's in Education from Lubbock Christian University in 2004 and attained my superintendent certification in 2006 through Texas Tech University.  I have taught middle school science, high school chemistry, biology, and physical science.  I also spent time as football basketball, track, and baseball coach.  I also served as an athletic director as well as an assistant principal for Slaton ISD.

I chose my career in education because, other than my parents, my high school teachers and coaches were the most influential people of my life. Many of my philosophical ideas about education were formed from my mentors in my youth and young career. I believe in cherishing each child that walks through our doors, that no two children are identical, but that all are capable of learning, and that education is the key to providing opportunities to the future.

My wife Shanay and I have been married for thirty-four years and are blessed with two beautiful children who are proud FHS alumni.  Armand was a graduate of class of 2017 and our youngest was a graduate of the class of 2021.  My hobbies include watching almost any type of sporting event, visiting with friends, golfing, and fishing.

I am honored and blessed to be the principal of Frenship High School.  The students and staff make coming to work each day a tremendous experience.  I have had the chance to see firsthand the impact teachers and administration make in the lives of so many of our students once they graduate from FHS and see them fulfill their goals and dreams.   I cannot think of another profession that molds the future of its youth more than that of an educator.  Thank you for this opportunity to be involved in your child’s life, and always remember that “It’s a Great Day to be a Tiger!”
