Frenship Boys Golf’s Hunter Welch Secures State Championship Slot

On Monday and Tuesday, the Frenship Tiger Boys Golf Team traveled to Grand Prairie where they competed in the Region 1-6A tournament. The Tigers faced 15 teams from across the state for a good match-up.

After day one of the tournament, the Tigers sat in 4th place shooting a team total 297, 9-strokes out of first. Frenship High School senior Hunter Welch led all players with a -7 65.

Despite the inclement weather on the second day of the tournament, the Tigers persevered and managed to secure 7th place, solidifying their position in the top 10.

Competing solo, Hunter Welch was named the Region 1-6A Champion facing over 100 players. Welch shot a –7 (65/72) to win it all.

“Hunter Welch shot an even par round of 72 to win the Region 1-6A medalist, qualifying him for the State Golf Tournament,” said Boys Head Golf Coach Andy Correll.

Coach Correll is proud of how the overall team performed and will miss the graduating seniors.

“I am very proud of our season and how we improved through the year. We will be losing 3 seniors, but we have a lot of good talent coming up,” said Coach Correll.
