Frenship High School One Act Play Named Area Champions

At the recent Area One Act Play Competition, the Frenship High School team dominated as they brought home the Champion’s Trophy and five individual awards.

Trevon Joseph earned the Outstanding Performer Award, and Bree Burchett brought home All-Star Cast. Elly Long received the All-Star Crew Award and both Jaida Christy and Carley Nelson earned Honorable Mention All-Star Cast.

FHS Theatre Director Jacob Lierman stated the team’s area performance was stellar.

"Our students were focused in and on fire last week,” said Lierman. “It was their best performance to date, Lindsey (FHS Theatre Teacher) and I could not have been more proud.”

The team heads to Frisco next week for the regional competition. The competition is heating up as the teams narrow down for the state competition.

“We know the DFW schools will show up with phenomenal work, but so will we, we just have to stay focused on our story and let the cards fall where they do,” said Lierman. “It is unprecedented to make it to state four years in a row, so we know schools are coming to take that from us. I know we can do it if we come ready.”

If you want to see this award-winning One Act Play, the team will host a public performance on Tuesday, April 23 at 7 p.m. in the FHS Performing Arts Center.

They will perform “The Hands of Its Enemy”, which follows a deaf playwright, Marietta, as she goes through the process of producing a play of her life story. Howard, the director, has recently gone through alcohol rehabilitation and is directing his first play in years. As she navigates the abuse of her childhood and the hard truth of her father's death, the audience watches as an unlikely pair becomes bound together through the journey of this play.
