Tiger Sports Recap: Cross Country, Golf, Tennis and Volleyball

Cross Country

Tiger Cross Country competed Saturday at the Plainview Invitational. On the girl's side, freshman Audrey Allen medaled with an 18th place finish and time of 20:11:18. Melina Bustos posted a 21:10.67, Kaylee Moore a 23:11.14, Amber McFarland 24:23.12, and Allie Holder 25:41.95. As a team, the ladies finished 8th on the day.

The Frenship boys placed 2nd on the day and were led by the trio of Zachariah Martinez who finished 11th with a time of 16:44.39, Collin Turley finishing 12th in 16:52.97, and Jalon Jackson at 17th with a time of 17:11.60. Other tiger finishers included: Quinten Bruce 17:25.59, Josiah Rodriguez 17:30.64, Daniel Najera 17:45.06, Gage Etchison 18:45.95, and Zach Gordon 19:09.96.

A testament to work and preparation, every Tiger runner set a new personal record on Saturday. Tiger Cross Country will be back in action next weekend at Mae Simmons Park for the Lubbock Invitational.


Golf
Varsity Boys Golf opened their Fall season last weekend in Fort Worth at the Bart Granger Memorial Golf Tournament. One of the largest tournaments in the country, it encompasses three rounds at two courses with 52 schools competing. The Tigers, with team members Jayce Hargrove, Brian Boles, Logan Vargas, Rex Newsom, and William Kimberly finished in 11th place with team scores of 303, 288, and 306. Boys golf will be back in action in mid-October at the West Texas Classic held at the Odessa Country Club.


Tennis

Frenship Tiger Tennis split their weekend with an 18-1 victory over Midland Lee and a 7-12 loss to Midland High. Despite a tough loss to Midland High, the Tigers took at least one match in all categories. The Tigers are 3-1 in District 2-6A.


Volleyball

The #19 Tiger Volleyball team (23-7) fell on the road last Tuesday to the Hereford Whitefaces in four sets (26-28, 25-10, 26-28, 23-25). The Tigers combined for 60 kills on the day, led by Devyn Nairn and Gracie Harrison with 16 kills apiece and Aali Mayfield chipping in another 10. Three Tigers tallied more than 20 digs with Gracie Harrison (28), Kendall Mahaney (25), and Hannah Page (21). Aali Mayfield led the way with 2 blocks while Devyn Nairn and Kayton Genenbacher each tallied 1.5.

The Tigers were idle on Friday and will begin district play Tuesday, September 24 hosting Midland Lee at 6:00 pm in the Tiger Pit. Game video will be available by Wednesday at Noon at www.Frenship.TV.
