Frenship High School

FHS Teacher Nomination as LCU Distinguished Educator

Leader, mentor, inspiring, life-long learner, strong, respected – these are just a few words used to describe Frenship High School English teacher Nichole Griffith. While she doesn’t seek attention or praise for her passion and dedication as an educator, Griffith is being honored as a Lubbock Christian University Distinguished Educator finalist.

Last month, 14 educators, one from each Frenship campus, was nominated for the honor. After a thorough selection process, Griffith was chosen to represent the district as Frenship’s selection for the LCU Distinguished Educator.

In the nomination letter to the selection committee, Frenship High School Principal Gregory Hernandez described Griffith as an effective and admired teacher who has positive impacts on those around her.

He explained how Griffith teaches both gifted and talented students in AP Language and Composition as well as remedial students in EOC English II classes.

“Her ability to successfully work with students of such diverse academic abilities and motivation speaks volumes to her skill in the classroom as well as her ability to form positive relationships with all students,” said Hernandez. “Not only does Ms. Griffith teach students the content, she also teaches them to believe in themselves.”

Beyond the classroom, Griffith also serves as the lead teacher for the English II PLC teacher group. She’s a member of the campus interview committee when selecting new English teachers, mentors student teachers working on their certification, assists in developing new teaching techniques and strategies and leads professional development sessions. On top of that, she serves as a FHS cheer sponsor.

“The fact that she is exhibiting the same growth mindset and courage that she advocates to her students is both inspiring and powerful,” said Hernandez.

Chosen as Frenship’s distinguished educator, Griffith will join other nominated, area teachers for the chance to be selected as LCU’s Award for Excellence in Teaching. That award will be chosen later this school year.
