Tiger Basketball Wins 2019 Gene Messer Classic

Last weekend the Tigers hosted the 2019 Gene Messer Classic and took down El Paso Socorro Thursday afternoon 53-22 to get things started. On Thursday night the Tigers faced Lubbock Coronado in a crosstown showdown and once again found a way to pull away late taking the contest 66-54. The Tigers dispatched the Seminole Indians 59-51 Friday evening to clinch a berth in the championship game

It was a rematch from the 2018 championship game against the South Oak Cliff Golden Bears. In that game, the Tigers staged a furious rally to force overtime in a tournament that featured an experimental shot clock, a first for high school basketball on the South Plains. The Tigers ultimately fell two points short dropping a 74-72 game. South Oak Cliff rode a 27-point effort to victory in 2018, but it would be a reversal in 2019.

This time it was the Tigers who came out victorious taking down the Golden Bears 63-43 behind their own 27-point effort. Senior Jordan Palmer, who is averaging 16.4 points per game for this Tiger squad, provided an impressive offensive spark. Palmer has also been nominated for the Lone Star Varsity Male Athlete of the Week. Fans can vote HERE daily through Thursday, December 12. If selected, Palmer will join Maci Maddox, Aali Mayfield, Kayton Genenbacher, Gracie Harrison, Drew Hocutt, and Donovan Smith at the Lone Star Varsity Awards at the end of the school year.

Frenship will be back in action Tuesday, December 10 at 7:30 pm in the Tiger Pit hosting the Seminole Indians. Follow Frenship Boys Basketball on Twitter @BoysFrenship for news and updates.
