Frenship Football Pushes Permian Hard at Ratliff

Following an opening kickoff returned for a touchdown, the Tigers tied the game on a 12-yard touchdown run by Ty Glass. A 22-yard Jon Olivarez field goal and 10-yard William Bayouth touchdown scamper gave Frenship a 10-point lead. Permian punched in a rushing touchdown but missed the extra point late in the second quarter. The teams headed to their halftime locker rooms with Frenship leading Permian by four points.

Tai’ja Smith punched in Frenship’s third rushing touchdown form four yards out and Olivarez connected on his second field goal of the evening, this one from 33 yards. But the Tigers offensive success was outmatched in the third quarter by two 79-yard touchdown passes, one followed by a failed two-point conversion and another by a successful one and the game headed to the fourth quarter tied at 27-27.

Ultimately, the Tigers would be unable to score in the fourth quarter after giving up a short touchdown run an untimely lost fumble robbed Frenship of strong momentum and a timely punt pinned Frenship on their own one yard line resulting in a safety.

Corbin Gandy finished 10/17 passing for 107 yards. Carson Miller became his favorite target hauling in 4 catches for 52 yards. Bayouth led the ground attack with 26 rushes for 111 yards and a touchdown and Smith rumbled for another 6 carries for 40 yards and a touchdown of his own.

The Tigers are back in action on Friday, November 6 at Peoples Bank Stadium as they host the Midland Lee Rebels (4-1, 1-1) at 7:00 pm. District 2-6A remains wide open with the Tigers playoff hopes still very much alive.
