Frenship High School Powerlifting Competes in First Meet of the Season

Macy Olmos placed second, Jazmyn Alvarado placed third, Jerimiah Washington placed second, and Blaize Whitaker placed 3rd.

This was the first of six meets that the Tigers will compete in before the regional and state competitions.

Assistant powerlifting coach Erik Kirkpatrick said this year looks a little different at the meets.

“We are all wearing masks and social distancing,” Kirkpatrick said. “Meets have changed the number for lifters on the floor at once so that all protocols are being followed.”

Kirkpatrick said he hopes to have a full season, and that his lifters get better each week.

“Our goal is to get as many as we can qualified for the extended meets,” Kirkpatrick said. “The kids come in early every day to get in their workout, then they go to class or onto other sports. We hope to instill a competitive drive towards their goals and to help them develop life lone habits of wanting to lift and stay healthy after they leave high school.”

The powerlifting team will travel to Dimmit for the Bobcat Invitational on Saturday, January 23.
