Frenship High School Bowling Club Dominates Competition

Karla Albarez is the club’s sponsor. She said she held a meeting in the Student Center where students could come by and sign up for tryouts.

“There are bowling matches on Saturdays at Whitewood Lanes in Lubbock at 12:30,” Albarez said. “Frenship’s team has won the last two matches!”

Albarez said the team takes all health and safety protocols into account while bowling.

“The teams are very safe,” Albarez said. “They wear their masks for the entirety of the competition.”

Albarez explained that she has been teaching the basics, and that it has been fun helping the team learn more and more about bowling.

“They are learning the fundamentals of bowling for competition versus bowling just for fun,” Albarez said. “Also, most are new to the game, but they are putting in the work to get better each time.”

Albarez said that she loves to see the bond the kids are forming, as well as their teamwork and drive to do their best.

“The camaraderie between the competing teams is nice to see,” Albarez said. “They congratulate each other when they bowl well, and they encourage when it doesn’t go well. They matches are exciting to see because of the vibe of the teams and spectators.”
