Frenship High School Golfer Prepares for the State Golf Tournament

Vargas grew up attending Frenship schools, starting with the district in Kindergarten! He said he has been playing golf since he was only four years old.

“I always thought it would be pretty cool to play for the blue and gold, and try and win a state championship,” Vargas said.

Although Vargas has never been to a state tournament, he said he is preparing the same way he would for any other tournament.

“Lots of early mornings and lots of late nights,” Vargas said. “You have to put in the work when nobody is looking - that’s what makes the difference.”

Vargas said he is excited for what lies ahead after signing to play golf for the University of Houston next fall.

“I expect to be on the starting five, and I am looking forward to playing for a powerhouse in the golf world,” Vargas said.

Vargas will play in the State Tournament in Georgetown, TX at the Legacy Hills Golf Club on Saturday, May 15. Vargas said he owes all of his past and future success to the golf program at Frenship.

“Frenship golf has impacted my life in a great way,” Vargas said. “Without Coach McDonald taking us to the top high school tournaments I wouldn’t be playing for Frenship. It is nice getting to play the hardest tournaments with Frenship Golf and getting to compete daily.”
