Frenship Volleyball Prepares for Weekend Tournament

The Tigers faced several good opponents in Allen going 3-1 on Friday, only losing to Plano West, a highly-ranked, stand out team. On the second day of the tournament the Tigers fell 0-2.

“There are lots of young players on our Varsity squad in some key areas,” Frenship Head Volleyball Coach Torree Winchell said. “The Allen Tournament was good for them, and the veteran players, to work through the growing pains of fast-paced varsity games against really high level, quality opponents.”

On Tuesday, the Tigers played at Lubbock-Cooper High School against the Lady Pirates. Because of the cross-town rivalry, this was big game for the team.

“The atmosphere and the energy at the game was outstanding,” Winchell said. “What a cool experience for all involved.”

The team played four hard fought sets. The action was intense in the first set, but the Tigers couldn’t hold out, losing 18-25. The Tigers were not going to go down without a fight, giving it all they had in the second set to win 25-21 over the Lady Pirates. The third set was a close call when the Pirates took the win over the Tigers, 21-25. In the fourth and final set, the Tigers again gave it there all but ultimately were defeated, 22-25.

“Maddie Brouillette is somewhat of an unsung hero on our team right now,” Winchell said. “We would not be able to produce at such a high level without her calm presence in serve receive, and her grit and determination in defense. She had 16 digs, and 2 aces on the night on Tuesday”

Devyn Nairn had 13 kills, Andrea Laughlin had 8, and Addison McClure had 6. Hannah Lockett had 19 assists with Hope Rivera following with 10.

Winchell said that her team is ready to begin using all the things they have learned in tournaments and tough matches when District play starts on September 10.

“We are really looking forward to implementing the pieces all together to showcase these girls and this team,” Winchell said. “This team has some big goals, and they are ready to continue working daily to make those things happen.”

Winchell said that this year the team motto is “All In, All Game, All Season.” She believes that as this team grows and learns the more they will improve.
