Frenship Boys Basketball Rolls into Weekend Tournament

"It was great having the opportunity to host the Gene Messer Classic this year after not being able to last season," Frenship Boys Basketball Head Coach Paul Page said. The tournament was cancelled last season due to COVID-19 restrictions. "It was great watching teams being able to get back to tournament play - the fabric of basketball. These players have been playing in tournaments from the time they were young players, and it was great to see them back in their element this year."

Frenship went on to win the top spot in the tournament with a victory over Palo Duro for the championship, 81-70.

"It was a huge success for our program," Page said.

But it wasn't just the players that enjoyed success during the tournament. Coach Page earned his 400th win.

"It was exciting getting my 400th career victory during the Gene Messer Classic with this great group of players, but more importantly it was fun for them to become back-to-back winners of the tournament," Page said.

Frenship's Jalen Braziel was selected as the MVP of the tournament and Tajavis Miller was selected to the All-Tournament Team.

Earlier this week the Tigers played Seminole in the Tiger Pit and had a blow out win, 77-44.

Jalen Braziel had an impressive 18-point run, followed by Tracey Godfrey and Jake Armstrong who banked 12 points each for the Tigers.

This win brings Frenship to 9-1 on the season as they roll into the weekend tournament in Cedar Hill.

"It was good to get a win over Seminole Tuesday night and not have a let down before we start play in the C.W. Jackson Tournament in Cedar Hill on Thursday," Page said. "We should see a lot of good and tough competition this weekend. We are excited to get to  play and be together as team over period of three days.  It will be good for our team development."
