Frenship Softball Continues to Dominate in District 2-6A

After a 9-6 road win against Odessa High on Friday, March 25, the Tigers were sitting at 5-0 in District 2-6A play, ready to face their other undefeated district opponent Midland High.

The game started off slow for the Tigers with Erin Boles getting the only hit in the first two innings, and as they dug themselves a hole, Frenship found themselves out matched 0-4.

What happened next would propel the Tigers past Midland High to clinch the win.

"We settled down and played really good championship defense all game long," Frenship Softball Head Coach Robby Dickenson said. "AB Prestridge and Sydnee Bowlin were a couple of defensive leaders."

With two runners on base, Frenship's Jillian Franco housed a line-drive home run over the centerfield fence, completing the 7th-inning rally for a 6-5 Tiger victory.

"We were down 3-5 in the bottom of the 7th with 2 outs," Dickenson said. "With two runners on base, Jill came up to bat and hit a 3 run walk-off homerun to win the game."

Franco had an impressive 5 RBIs  in addition to her homerun, and Maddie Stewart also had a home run for the Tigers.

"Erin Boles was the winning pitcher," Dickenson said. "It really was an exciting game for first place. We are now 6-0 in District and Midland High is 5-1."

The Tigers will begin their second round of District 2-6A play against San Angelo Central at  home on Friday, April 1.

"We will work on countering their strengths and areas that are lacking for us - mostly defensive improvements," Dickenson said. "I am impressed with the competitive attitude and play of the whole team. They never give up!"
