The first of these events was held on October 1, where FHS and TTU Spanish students read a few children's bilingual books that were written by Spanish speakers and have cultural references to a Spanish speaking country. 

Karla Albarez, one of the Spanish club sponsors at the high school, started this activity with TTU for community outreach and saw the opportunity to grow a love of learning about the Hispanic Heritage, not just with the Frenship community, but also the Lubbock community. Albarez and Maria Tabares, the second Spanish club sponsor at the high school, decided to get the Spanish Club involved. The goal was to allow the students gain experience not only in speaking Spanish but community outreach as well.

The FHS Spanish Club students were nervous for their first reading and worried about messing up but overall, they were very excited to participate. All their hard work in class paid off as the first reading event went off without a hitch. A handful of children showed up to each session and the students got involved with the stories.  

“The girls were amazing with the readings and were quite animated,” said Albarez.  

The FHS Spanish club is having another reading on December 3rd at the Lubbock National Flea Market.
