Frenship FFA Senior Receives $10,000 Scholarship

As a part of the Agricultural Mechanics Show at the Major Stock Shows around Texas, Cade Clark, a senior at Frenship High School decided to restore a Model 70 tractor. Clark started with his old Model 70 tractor that belonged to a family friend and completely remodeled it from the ground up. He stripped it of all the old parts down to the frame and replaced the tractor with all new parts and repainted the machine.

The Agricultural Mechanics Show at Major Livestock Shows is broken up into many different categories. Clark exhibited his restored Model 70 tractor as Champion Jr Ag Mechanics Early Model Tractor Restoration Project.

Clark has had a lot of success over the last few months at Fort Worth, San Angelo, and San Antonio including several Reserve Division Champions at the Agricultural Mechanics Show. Additionally, he will be traveling to Houston to compete in the Ag Mechanics show there.

As prizes from these shows, Clark has won a lot of valuable ag mechanic supplies including toolboxes, welders, welding supplies and an air compressor.

At the San Antonio show, he was awarded the $10,000 San Antonio Livestock Show and Rodeo Scholarship. After winning his specific division, he had a chance to compete against the other similar division Champions where he was awarded Reserve Champion overall. Clark received belt buckles in addition to the scholarship for both his Champion Division and Reserve Champion Overall.

“There are so many facets of ag students can compete in and we love seeing students step out into these different experiences and opportunities,” said Kelsea Jones, one of the Frenship FFA Advisors. “We are so proud of Cade and the time and effort he devoted into restoring his Model 70 tractor.”

Clark plans to attend South Plains College this fall to work toward an associate degree in Agricultural Business. Once he graduates with his degree, he plans to stick to the family business and take up farming with his father.
