Frenship High School Graduate Excels at Texas State Solo and Ensemble Contest

This past May, Frenship ISD had 180 entries in band and choir who advanced to the Texas State Solo and Ensemble Contest in Austin, TX.

Joshua MacLean, a 2023 FHS Graduate, performed his contest solo on drum set and was awarded a Division 1 score and presented a gold medal. After all the performances are completed for the state, the judges then select students to be awarded the "Outstanding Performer Award," which represents the attainment by an individual of superior musicianship.

Out of the competing musicians from districts across the state who performed at the 2023 Texas State Solo and Ensemble Contest, only two to three percent of the solo performances earned the distinguished honor of being recognized as an Outstanding Performer and all are awarded a substantial gold medal for this achievement.

Dr. Ryan Smith, Director of Fine Arts, says that Joshua is well deserving of this award.

“This accomplishment is a testament to Josh's exceptional talent, dedication, and hard work,” said Dr. Smith.

Congratulations, Joshua!
