Cross Country Competes in Coach T Invitational

The Frenship Tigers crossed the finish line this weekend in Denton, TX. Several Tigers had notable runs in the meet. Click here for the individual Coach T Invitational results.

Head Cross Country Coach, Jeff Bigham, is happy with the improvement students have made since last year.

“It was an amazing environment and seeing some of the best in Texas brought out the best in us. Every runner that went last year got a better time on the course this year and our new runners had solid first outings,” said Coach Bigham.

The Coach T Invitational helps the team prepare for the regional meet, where they will face several of the same schools and runners again.

“We still have a lot of work to do to get ready to see these teams again at Regionals. We have some great performers, but we also need to make sure that everyone is improving. It may not seem like it, but Cross Country is a team sport, and we are only as competitive as our 5th best runner,” said Coach Bigham.

Up next, the team will travel to the Amarillo Invite on September 9, 2023. For the first time this season, the Tigers will get a taste of the other teams from the Lubbock area.

“The Amarillo ISD Invitational will include many strong teams from Amarillo and Lubbock. It will be the first time that we will see all the Lubbock ISD schools and being able to compare our fitness to runners we are familiar with is very useful,” said Coach Bigham. “At this point in our season, we are beginning to incorporate speed with distance, which makes for some of the most difficult training we do every year."

The Tigers are ready to bring the heat in the next meet and are anticipating seeing more growth develop as the season continues.

“I am really proud of how our runners are working and I see progress. Hopefully the heat will go away soon so we can start to enjoy ourselves more,” said Coach Bigham.
