After a successful tournament in Muleshoe, the Frenship High School Speech and Debate team is looking forward to a fun and rewarding semester. Speech and Debate advisors, Heather Byars and Rebekka Berryhill are excited for the remainder of the season and have big goals for the team to advance.
“Our goals for the team this year are for us to have one student in each UIL event break out of district and go to regionals. We also want 3 or 4 students to qualify for the National Speech and Debate Association National Tournament that will be held in Des Moines, Iowa, next summer.
The work that the team is putting in this year is amazing. They are creative, smart, and interesting students who put themselves out there to compete and try so many weekends,” said Byars and Berryhill.
Being able to adjust your performance based on feedback is a skill that the Speech and Debate students are mastering.
“I think we are most looking forward to seeing just how much each of our students grow this year. The competition can feel challenging, but our team takes the losses and critiques and goes back to better their performances and presentations,” said Byars and Berryhill. “We are already seeing change and improvement and we are already bringing home medals from tournaments.”
