Over the winter break, the Girls Soccer Team faced three different Abilene teams securing two wins and one tie. After preparing all semester with long practices and scrimmages, Head Girls Soccer Coach, Lauren Denning, is proud of how the team played.
“Our girls had some good performances in scrimmages before the break, but we wanted to make sure that there was time for family and rest,” said Coach Denning. “It’s always hard to find motivation when your season falls over a break, not to mention being an outdoor sport during winter! We knew that we were hitting the ground running with our first games coming on January 4th. They worked hard in practices, but those first games are always good for shaking off some rust and showing how we are going to compete for the year.”
Winter Break Game Results
- Frenship defeated Abilene, 1-0
- Frenship tied Abilene Wylie, 0-0
- Frenship defeated Abilene Cooper, 3-0
Coach Denning says that one goal for the Tigers this season is to maintain shutouts.
“Maintaining shutouts is always a team goal and something we are proud of accomplishing. Mostly, I was proud of how we responded coming back on Saturday after not performing our best on Thursday. We talked about responsibility to the team, and we saw evidence of it during our final win,” said Coach Denning.
The Girls Soccer team is currently competing in the National Elite Prep Showcase at Southlake Carroll. Yesterday, January 11, the Tigers played Highland Park, ending the game in a tie, 0-0. January 12, the Tigers will face Plano West, and January 13 the Tigers play Rockwall.
“The next two weekends consist of our big overnight trips. If you ask the girls, they usually hold their best memories of the year so I’m looking forward to seeing them get closer as a team and have some fun together,” said Coach Denning.
Competing in tournaments early on in the season is designed to help the team not only grow together off the field, but also improve on the field.
“We specifically choose these tournaments at the beginning of the year to test our tactics, our fitness, and our team resolve so we are looking forward to working for each other and hoping to get a better idea of how to be successful in moving forward through the season,” said Coach Denning.
