Frenship High School

Tiger Powerlifting Team Places at Brownfield Invitational

Last weekend, the Frenship High School Powerlifting team suited up and traveled to the Brownfield Cub Invitational. At the meet the Boys team placed 1st and the Girls team placed 7th.

The individual medalists in the Girls team include: Danessa Cornish in 2nd place and Kaileah Renouf in 3rd place. Scoring for the Girls team was Gaby Hernandez, Morgan Neal, Clarie McDonald, and Myka Hurtado.

The Boys team had a total of five Tigers winning their weight classes. The individual medalists include: Pedro Loredo, Eli Hicks, Reynaldo Loredo, Jack Pollard, and Michael Garza in 1st place. Colton Watts came in 2nd place and Brooks Franklin came in 3rd place. Sam Odom scored points for the Boys team. Michael Garza and Reynaldo Loredo brought home the Outstanding Lifter Awards for lite and heavy weight platforms for the entire meet.

Head Powerlifting Coach, Dusty Robinson, is pleased with how the first meet went and has several goals for both teams this season.

“We want to improve on our performances from last year. The Boys won one meet and finished 2nd at the other two meets last year,” said Coach Robinson. “Both groups of boys and girls took a full crew of 12 lifters to Regionals last season.  The boys finished in the top 12 for team standings and two advanced to the State meet. For the girls program we were really young last season, now we are looking to break into the top 10 in our division and possibly get a few out to state this season.”

Coach Robinson is most looking forward to developing each athlete to their fullest potential.

“The older, more experienced athletes are fun to be around, they have been with me for three years now, they love the competition of the sport, and they put in a lot of time and energy.  The younger athletes are learning every day. I love to see the desire in them to get better daily. That tells me that the future is bright for this program,” said Coach Robinson.

Up next for the Powerlifting team is the 2nd annual Frenship Tiger Invitational. The meet is on Saturday, January 27 at Frenship’s Ninth Grade Center starting at 9:00 a.m. There will be over 300 lifters with 80 of those being Tigers.

There will be an admission fee of $3.00 for adults at the gate. Children 10 and under will get in free.

Let’s go, Tigers! We can’t wait to see what you accomplish this season!
