Girls Soccer has Strong Performance at Governor’s Cup Tournament

It was a fast and furious tournament for the Frenship High School Girls Soccer team. The Tigers won 2/3 of the games in the tournament. Head Girls Soccer Coach Lauren Denning is happy with how the team rebounded in the final matches.

“The first game was a little frustrating. We thought we were the better team but let them have chances to score and they capitalized on them,” said Coach Denning. “We were disappointed, but sometimes that’s good to have those games early in the season. We rebounded well with the next two games and started putting together better full games and improved offensively.”

One of Denning's favorite parts is seeing how the team’s chemistry grows at away tournaments.

“Overnight trips are always fun, and we use them to get to know people more than what we do at school every day,” said Coach Denning. “I believe that understanding each other off the field will always improve chemistry on the field. Our girls genuinely cheer for each other and want each other to do well for the team. My favorite part is watching them get excited for their teammates.”

The Girls are on the road again this weekend to face the Amarillo High Sandies. The game is this Saturday, January 27 at 11:00 a.m.

“Getting through that rigorous tournament schedule is a grind, so we took this week to relax some and get some recovery for tired legs and bodies. But it is our last “warm-up” game before we start district, so we want to compete well and make sure we come out with some momentum to start district next week,” said Coach Denning.
