The All-Region Jazz Band auditions were held on Monday, January 22 with five Frenship High School students being selected to perform as a part of the elite band. As a part of the audition, students prepared 3 jazz etudes and a jazz improvisation etude to be performed for the judges.

The Frenship students who made the team are listed below:

  • Maci Cooper – Bass Guitar
  • Thomas Blevins - Drum Set
  • Noah Luna – Drum Set
  • Braden Weber – Trumpet
  • Bridget Fisher – Tenor Sax

Students from Frenship, Lubbock High, Coronado, Lubbock-Cooper, and Monterey make up the 18-person All-Region Jazz Band. After being selected, the band has a week to come together and perform for the All-Region Jazz concert.

On Saturday, January 27 at the Frenship Performing Arts Center, the All-Region Jazz Band performed under the direction of Alex Parker, Director of Jazz Studies at Baylor University. The concert selections included Big Swing Face by Bill Potts, Hora Decubitis by Charles Mingus, Aim High by Fred Strum, and Otra Vez by Matt Harris.

“We are proud of our Frenship students who achieved the honor of being selected as an All-Region Jazz musician,” stated Scott Carter, Head Band Director at Frenship High School. “What a treat to learn from and perform with such a great jazz musician and director.”

Congratulations students!
