Frenship Academic Decathlon Heads to State

Academic Decathlon is a nationally recognized program that encompasses multidisciplinary learning and public speaking skills at both team and individual levels. Students compete in these ten events: Art, Economics, Music, Literature, Math, Social Science, Science, Speech, Interview, and Essay.

This year's theme is Technology and Humanity. Students have put in countless study hours reading about everything from the history of computers to neuroscience to Sci-Fi film scores. 

At the recent Regional Meet, the Frenship Academic Decathlon competed against 13 other schools. They brought home 28 individual medals and two team medals, securing the overall First Place Team title. The awards are as follows: 

  • Katherine Dyal: 1st in Art, Economics, Literature, and Social Science, 2nd in Science, 3rd in Music, Essay, and Speech, and 1st place overall in her division 
  • Tatum Cameron: 2nd in Art and Essay 
  • Elijah Hernandez: 2nd in Art and Economics, 1st in Literature and Science 
  • Issac Deleon: 1st in Math, 3rd in Music 
  • Julie Peterson: 2nd in Science and Essay 
  • Astryd Bergerson: 3rd in Literature, 2nd in essay, 1st in Speech 
  • Karleigh Rosas: 3rd in Art 
  • Spencer Brewer: 2nd in Art and Literature, 3rd in Social Science, Essay, and Speech 
  • Team: 1st in Super Quiz, 1st place overall team 

The Academic Decathlon will head to Frisco to compete in the State Competition on February 22. The top teams and individuals at the State level take home scholarship money totaling almost $150,000.
