Frenship's Academic Decathlon Team Makes School History at State Competition

Several Frenship students also brought home 1st place individual awards in various categories, and Frenship senior Katherine Dyal earned the Top Individual Award for Texas. She placed 3rd overall in the Honors Division and was awarded a $1,000 scholarship. This year’s scholarship brings her two-year AcaDec scholarship earnings to $1,750.

"With this being my first year to coach AcaDec, I learned a lot. I'm so impressed with how hard the team worked and how much they grew throughout the year,” said Academic Coach Jennifer Brelsfoard.

Other individual awards include:

  • Katherine Dyal: 1st in Literature, 2nd in Art, 2nd in Economics, 2nd in Social Science, 3rd in Music
  • Tatum Cameron: 1st in Art, 3rd in Essay
  • Elijah Hernandez: 1st in Literature, 2nd in Interview

"This group of students really pulled out all the stops this year. They met outside of school hours, including giving up their Saturdays to study and prepare for State,” said AcaDec Coach Laura Lewis. “I am so proud of all that they've accomplished, and we hope to continue the winning tradition next year!"

Congratulations, Tigers!
