Frenship High School

Frenship Graphic Art and Design Students Bring Home 66 Medals

Earlier this month, South Plains College hosted the iDigi Festival and invited Graphic Design, Animation and Digital Media Students to attend the workshops and enter work in the Graphic Arts Contest. Students submitted work in categories of Video, Music, Print, Digital Art, and Web.

Students from Frenship High School submitted between one to four pieces of work they completed in Graphic Design, Digital Media, or Animation classes. Overall, around 53 students competed in the contest and had work submitted.

Frenship students brought home 66 medals with several students earning multiple medals. Of all the schools entered in the contest, Frenship truly stood out as they walked away with more medals than any other school in attendance.

In addition to the contest, the festival held several workshops where students had the opportunity to learn real-world applications of design. Students got to practice using advanced programs utilized in the Graphic Arts Department at South Plains College.

The students got to learn through hands-on activities such as screen-printing t-shirts, designing and creating buttons, and Blender 3D processing. They also learned what the Graphic Arts department setting would feel like if they attended South Plains College. The learned which classes are offered and the benefits of attending a 2-year college for graphic design, photography, animation, and other concentrations in the Graphic Arts program.

“Many students had never been to a college, and this was a great experience for them,” said Marietta Decker, a Graphic Arts Teacher at FHS.

Decker took 37 students to the festival alongside Amy Thomas, the FHS Photography teacher, who took approximately 20 photography students. At the end of the day, the students listened to a panel of experts who work in Graphic Arts, all from companies in Lubbock, and were able to ask questions about career opportunities.

The students walked away from the festival with a new understanding of graphic art and design opportunities, as well as some hardware for their submitted work.

Below are the Frenship Students who earned medals for their work. You can check out all the student's work in the photo album HERE!
