Frenship High School Wraps Up Academic UIL Season at Regionals

Academic UIL is recognized as one of the nation’s most challenging and wide-ranging student programs, encouraging participants to sharpen their skills, tackle real-world issues, and dive deep into academic subjects. The competition pushes students beyond memorization, asking them to think creatively, analyze critically, and perform under pressure.

This year, 12 students from the Frenship Academic UIL team advanced from the district level to compete at regionals. The contest took place this past weekend at Walnut Grove High School in Prosper, Texas. Competition was fierce as Frenship students faced off against some of the largest 6A schools in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

Two Frenship High School students earned top-ten placements at the regional meet, bringing home medals for their outstanding performances. Thomas Wylie earned 2nd place in Chemistry, while Drasti Patel placed 6th in Prose Interpretation.

UIL academics has a wide variety of events and is very competitive. Advancing to regionals and beyond is a major accomplishment.

“We are in a very difficult region competing against the DFW area 6A schools,” said Kami Miller, the UIL Coordinator for Frenship High School.  “I am proud of our students for working hard and making it to regionals.”

Miller explained that the value of Academic UIL extends beyond academic knowledge, fostering growth in both personal and leadership skills.

“Academic UIL benefits students by sharpening their skills in various subjects, improving their critical thinking skills, strengthens college applications, and often sparks a love of learning by making it competitive, challenging, and rewarding,” said Miller. “Many events help build their teamwork and leadership skills as well as public speaking skills.”

While the Frenship Academic UIL season concluded at regionals, the returning team members and advisors are gearing up to start preparing for the 2025-2026 season. They hope to continue learning and reaching new heights in the Academic UIL competition.
