HOSA is a global student led organization open to anyone interested in healthcare careers and recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and the Department of Health and Human Services. HOSA’s mission is to empower HOSA-Future Health Professionals to become leaders in the global health community through education, collaboration, and experience.
This year, Frenship High School had six students excel in the area competition and advance to the state contest. The students competed in a variety of events and presentations, showcasing their healthcare knowledge and experience.
Sanya Fuambu and Ryan Luong competed in a team event for emergency disaster preparedness and response CERT skills. This competition consisted of preparation for a written test and skills demonstration.
Basilio Villamor and Jackson Hill made a presentation on their health career display over Family Medicine. They researched, interviewed a family medicine doctor, and created a display board, along with career materials, in preparation for the event.
Whitney Olokede researched, interviewed, and performed peer presentations about family medicine physicians. Lastly, Lihn Bui made a portfolio on a clinical specialty with a focus on pediatrics. She was able to shadow a pediatrician at UMC and performed a skill for the judges.
“While they did not advance to the next level, we are so proud of the self-motivation and discipline they have shown,” said A'Laura Hancock, one of the FHS HOSA Advisors. “These students have truly shown dedication and tenacity to prepare for their individualized events. They spent hours of their own time preparing and keeping up with deadlines.”
At the state competition, Fuambu earned a prestigious Texas HOSA Scholarship in the amount of $700 to help further her education in healthcare.
Congratulations, Tigers!
