Amy Baker Named 2018 Twenty Under Forty Award Recipient

Frenship Independent School District congratulates Amy Baker, FISD CTE Coordinator, for her recognition as a 2018 Twenty Under Forty award recipient from the Lubbock Chamber of Commerce and the Young Professionals of Lubbock.

The Twenty Under Forty initiative aims to recognize outstanding individuals under the age of 40 who exemplify leadership in their careers while actively participating in Lubbock and the surrounding community.

“Having seen the list of recipients, it is a great privilege to be standing among some of the most influential and positive leaders in our community,” said Baker. “When I left the classroom three years ago, I was afraid I wouldn’t be able to make an impact anymore. But to win this award was reassuring knowing I am still an advocate for our school district. In my current role, I am still involved in programs and initiatives that help students and families. I have a greater capacity to reach more people where I can support students, their parents, our staff and the community. I approach it that way.”

Baker is in her 16th year in education and 12th with FISD. As CTE Coordinator, Baker directs and supports 14 career and vocational programs as well as more than professional educators, implements real-world connections, industry certifications and job shadow experiences for students, and creates career pathways and 4-year plan documents for more than 1,500 students.

“I knew from a young age I wanted to serve others and have a direct impact on my community,” said Baker. “I worked in a classroom for 14 years, teaching more than 10 different subjects – marketing, communication, debate, leadership and more – and spending more than 5,000 hours outside of the classroom working with students on extra-curricular activities and leadership events.”

Baker serves in many leadership capacities in the district and the community and is a recipient of several prestigious awards. She is the CTE District Advisory Committee Chair, member of the FISD Strategic Planning Committee, Leadership Lubbock Class of 2018, Beaumont Foundation Regional Award Recipient (2016), Top 10 National Society of High School Scholars Claes Nobel Educator of the Year (2014) and many more.

Baker and her colleagues selected in the 2018 Twenty Under Forty class will be honored at a banquet on Tuesday, November 13 at the MCM Elegante Hotel & Suites.
