The Frenship High School wrestling teams saw some major action this past weekend with the guys attending the 20-team Hereford Rumble and the girls attending the 24-team Lady Longhorn Classic at Caprock.
On the girl’s side, junior Robbi Furst, after wrestling herself into the silver bracket, went 3-0 with three pins to achieve the first gold medal in Frenship High School wrestling tournament history.
Senior Vita Munoz and juniors Jaycie Collins and Bailey Adams also had strong showings this weekend. Collins qualified for the gold bracket while Munoz and Adams made the silver bracket.
The guys had some great matches with outstanding performances. The highest Frenship finisher at this tough two-day tournament was 160-pound junior D.J. Garza who finished in fifth place after winning seven of his nine matches. One of his two losses came against a two-time defending state champion.
Junior John Thomasson placed seventh in his respective weight class after posting a 6-3 record.
Junior Conner Ogle finished in eighth place with a 4-4 record, and junior Justin Thompson was also 4-4 on the weekend and placed ninth.
Congrats to all the Tiger wrestlers on a hard fought and eventful weekend.
