Welcome to Mr. Huston's Class!

ABOUT ME
I would like to start off by saying that I am looking forward to having you or your child in my class this coming year! If you ever need anything at all please feel free to come see me during my conference hours or send me an email! I look forward to a fun and successful year!

I grew up in a small rural community just north of the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex called Lindsay, Texas. This rural community is where I truly began to develop my love for agriculture and more importantly my love for education. Upon graduating high school I moved out west to Lubbock, Texas to attend Texas Tech University. During my time at Texas Tech I was honored to be able to judge on the 2016 Wool Judging Team and coach the 2017 Wool Judging Team. Through these experiences I made some valuable connections that would ultimately lead to me staying in west Texas for good. I graduated with my bachelors in 2018 and then again with my masters in 2020. After graduation, I accepted a position at Plainview High School to teach high school agriculture. While at Plainview I was blessed with outstanding students, and through our my time there had the Reserve National Champion FFA Wool Judging Team, a National Qualifying Dairy Cattle Team, a National Gold Emblem Proficiency Recipient, more than 15 state qualifiers, four state gold emblem proficiency award recipients, three Plainview District FFA Officers, one Area 1 FFA Officer, and this past summer had a student elected to serve as a 2022-2023 Texas FFA State Officer. This summer I decided to make a transition and join the faculty here at Frenship High School. I cannot express enough how excited I am to be able to work with the teachers, administration, community members, and most importantly the students here at Frenship and look forward to providing students with the opportunities to find success through the FFA and in their future careers! I look forward to meeting you all and like I said earlier, if you ever need anything, please do not hesitate to get in contact with me.

Go Tigers!

Agricultural education got its start more than 100 years ago and unlike most other types of curriculum, utilizes what we call the "Three Circle Model" to provide quality real world education opportunities to our students. The three components of agricultural education include classroom instruction, supervised agricultural experiences (SAEs), and leadership (FFA). We do not require all students to participate in all components of the three circle model, however, we do recommend it as it will provide students with a more well rounded experience. The first component is simply your traditional classroom setting. The students are provided classroom instruction on different topics within agriculture. The second component, SAE, allows students to practice what they learn in the classroom in a real world setting. Traditionally this is thought of as a livestock project or growing a crop, however, an SAE can be so much more including but not limited to: developing and conducting a community service project, working in an agriculture field, shadowing an agriculture expert, participating in the Agriscience Fair, or even starting and running a business. The final component is the FFA. The FFA is a student led organization that allows students to gain valuable leadership skills through officer positions and committees, as well as opportunities to compete against students all across the nation in a variety of different contests. Some of the contests we compete in here at Frenship include: Livestock Judging, Meats Judging, Poultry Judging, Veterinary Science, Wool Judging, Range Judging, Land Judging, Creed Speaking, Ag Issues, Public Relations, Job Interview, Prepared Public Speaking, Extemporaneous Speaking, and many more. If you or your child would like to participate in any of these opportunities, feel free to get in contact with me. We are always looking for more members!
