My grading philosophy:
  1. You choose your grade in my class.
  2. Your actions make louder choices than your words.
  3. I will always encourage you to revise your work to earn a higher grade.
  4. My job is to facilitate the content (i.e., help guide you through the class as you do the work).
  5. At the end of the day, I honor your choices, whatever they might be.

Tips for improving your grade:
  1. Show up for tutorials. Even a quick 5-minute check-in before/after school to sit down and talk about your grade can help.
  2. Know what resources are available to you, and get good at using those resources.
  3. Advocate for yourself. If you need more resources or support to be successful, ask!
  4. I don't mind giving extensions, but keep in mind that if you turn in an assignment after I have already graded the class set, then it will take me longer to grade yours.
  5. If you are waiting on a grade for an assignment you turned in late (or with an extension), then show up to tutorials so I can sit down with you to grade the assignment and give verbal feedback.

Hi, everyone! This is my second year at Frenship High School, and my 17th year of teaching. I taught ESL for 11 years in the DFW metroplex, and I taught English classes at TX Tech for 5 years. I'm currently working on a PhD in linguistics, and I enjoy learning about all the different ways humans use language!

In addition to reading, studying, writing, and teaching, I love spending time with my family. Our favorite activities are traveling, camping, and going to concerts.
