Tiger Football Stands Tall in District and Statewide Stat Categories

The Frenship Tiger Football team is very quickly rising to one of the most potent offensive and defensive teams in all of West Texas. After an open date for all of District 2-6A, the Tigers are headed to Grande Communications Stadium in Midland, TX to face the state-ranked Midland Lee Rebels. The Rebels are currently #19 in 6-A according to Dave Campbell’s Texas Football (DCTF) and #25 on MaxPreps. DCTF’s rankings are the rankings of record in the State of Texas and officially recognized by the Associated Press.

The Tigers’ passing attack is ranked #1 in District 2-6A with Senior Donovan Smith piling up 1507 yards through the air and 12 touchdowns so far this season. Smith also leads the district in total yards with 1729 to his credit including 219 rushing and 3 receiving. Senior Drew Hocutt has been Smith’s top target and is #2 in the district with 546 yards and 5 touchdowns receiving. Hocutt trails only Midland Lee’s Loic Fouonji, who currently holds offers from 11 FBS Power 5 football programs. Senior running back William Bayouth has led the way for the Tigers on the ground and is #3 in District 2-6A with 452 yards and 8 touchdowns on the ground.

The Tigers are also holding their own from the statewide perspective, and even after a bye week pushed other team stats ahead, Smith is still Top 15 in the state in total yards and passing yards. Defensively, Tristin Laughlin and Jake Gilbert sit at #3 and #4 respectively in District 2-6A with 42 and 39 tackles to their names. From the Special Teams side, senior kicker Cage Jones is #6 in all of 6A and #8 among all classifications with 43 kicking points scored on the season and is #10 in all of 6A in yards per punt as well.

Friday’s game can be heard on Double T 97.3 in Lubbock, the Double T 97.3 mobile app, or streamed at www.doublet973.com. Keith Patrick and Chois Woodman will be on the call for the 7:30 pm kickoff and the Lubbock Truck Sales Pregame Show will go live at 7:00 pm.
