Frenship Tennis Makes History As Area Champions

Frenship Tiger Tennis made school history on October 14, 2022, winning the Area Championship over Northwest Byron Nelson 10-7. Before the match began, the coaching staff just told the team to relax, enjoy the moment and have fun playing tennis, and the Tigers did just that!

The Tigers played tough in doubles action but were down 3-4 at the end of doubles play. The team quickly focused on bringing intensity and mental toughness into singles play and players came away with some big wins to take the lead 6-4.

The score was then narrowed to 9-7 with three matches remaining. All of the remaining matches were in tiebreakers when Junior Oliver Boyce clinched the match with a tiebreaker for the third set 11-9.

Boyce's teammates rushed the court in excitement to hug their teammate and celebrate writing their own page in tennis program history.

The student-athletes have been working hard since August for this moment. The team knew this was their time to make school history and used that as motivation to be prepared to play at a high level against a good team.

"It was amazing to see the kids come together as a team, play hard and competitive all day, encouraging one another and being proud to represent the blue and gold," said Coach May.

The match came down to playing nine total tiebreakers and winning four of them, one of which would determine the overall win for the Tigers. The team had dialed in on winning those moments during practices and the coaches were thrilled to see the students' hard work pay off.

Coach Wiles and Coach May shared that they are incredibly proud of this accomplishment for their student-athletes.

"To see the excitement and big smiles on their faces, it was a moment we will always remember as a coaching staff."
