Frenship High School Students Participate in Job Shadow Day

Junior or senior Frenship High School students had the opportunity to participate in the job shadow day and observe a career they find interesting. Students who signed up completed an application and listed three career options they would like to explore. They were then paired with a participating employer to shadow professionals in the community for a couple of hours.

While students did not have to be enrolled in a Career Technical Education (CTE) program to participate, many were. Most students who are enrolled in CTE programs chose to observe professionals in related career courses that align with their chosen career pathway.

The job shadow experience provides students with a preview of the workplace and the realistic skills and requirements needed to become employed in their chosen profession. This program allows students to experience a real workday firsthand.

Andrew Narvais spent the day at the Texas Tech Health Sciences Neurology Unit, where he shadowed the staff and doctors that make up the unit.

“I had the chance to observe a couple of patients and learn about the diseases and illnesses each individual struggled with,” said Narvais. “I felt I was able to form a foundational understanding of a patient's day-to-day life while living with certain neurological conditions.”

Mia De Los Santos shadowed Ashley Manale, a Frenship Crisis Intervention Counselor.

“I was able to gain more knowledge in the mental health and counseling field of work,” said De Los Santos. “I was able to learn about not only the job and what they do for a living, but also how they got to their current position, the preparations of what to do in college, and amazing programs that are offered at colleges that are beneficial in the future. Overall, I had a great experience and was able to meet amazing people and build connections with them.”
