Frenship Boys Golf Perseveres during South Plains Shootout

Although the weather was not the most ideal, that didn’t stop the Boys Golf team. On day one of the South Plains Shootout, Varsity Blue and Gold tied for 2nd place and 16th place.  

Day one of the competition, Frenship Blue tied for 3rd place thanks to Palmer Stephens (73). Hunter Gossett (75) tied for 9th place. Day two of the Shootout, the Tigers continued to battle through colder weather and heavy fog. The Tigers came in 2nd place and 14th place.  

For the Blue Team, Hunter Welch (71) and Drew McCalib (72) dialed in all day finishing the round in 3rd place and 5th place individually. On the Gold Team, Zach Ware (76) finished in 16th place. 

After two days of challenging weather and a challenging course, Frenship Blue finished strong coming in 2nd place in team total. Individually, Hunter Welch came in 10th place, Drew McMalib and Hunter Gossett tied for 16th place. Zach Ware finished in 14th place for Frenship Gold.  

“The South Plains Shootout challenged players in a closest to the pin and longest drive competition during their rounds,” said Assistant Golf Coach, Dustin Thomas. 

Drew McCalib (Blue) won the closest to the pin and Camden Reese (Gold) took home the dub with the longest drive. 

“Both teams continue striving for excellence and putting in the hard work as they prepare for their upcoming schedule and district play in the spring,” said Coach Thomas.
