Frenship Unified Rocket League Team Named Regional Champions

The Frenship Esports program started in 2019 and since then the program has continued to grow to incorporate more Esports games to provide more opportunities for our students, including a new Unified league that is a partnership with Special Olympics.

Unified Esports is a gaming competition that brings students with and without intellectual disabilities together to compete in their favorite video games. This past week the Frenship Unified team competed in the Regional Playoffs for Unified Rocket League, which was streamed for friends and family to watch on Frenship.TV.

The Frenship team showed tremendous teamwork during the competition and took home the title of Regional Champions. The team will now go on to compete in the State Competition. The team this year has two of the students from last year's championship team, they are competing again this year with one new student.

These students started training for the contest season back in September. The students practice every other day during their Esports class, and before the season starts, they practice after school. Since the contest is an online video game, the students are also encouraged to play and practice outside of school if they are able.

Unified Esports is just another great way for students to get involved in representing Frenship and going out and showing their skills.

“A lot of people look down on Esports but playing the games competitively takes a lot of skill as well as communication amongst teammates,” said Brian Singletary, the FHS Esports Coach. “For these students to have won in back-to-back years speaks volumes about the skill, communication, and effort that they put into their work. These are some of the most hard-working students I know.”

Good luck to the state contest Tigers!
