Tiger Powerlifters Showcase Determination at State Championship and Regional Meet

On March 8, the Boys Powerlifting team packed up their things and headed to Abilene to compete in the Regional Powerlifting Meet. The Boys finished in 5th place out of 22 teams. Jack Pollard, Michael Garza, and Reynaldo Loredo will now advance to compete at the state powerlifting meet in Abilene on March 23. Check out their results:

  • Jack Pollard in the 181 weight class
  • Michael Garza in the 165 weight class. Michael set a new regional bench press record, 405 pounds
  • Reynaldo Loredo in the 242 pound weight class. Reynaldo set a new regional bench press record, 585 pounds

“All three state qualifiers medaled.  Pollard advances in fifth place by totaling 1440 pounds. Michael Garza advances to state by finishing in second place. Ronaldo Loredo advances by winning his division,” said Dusty Robinson, Powerlifting Coach.

During the Spring Break holiday, five members on the Girls Powerlifting Team competed at the State Championship facing the top lifters from across Texas. Danessa Cornish finished in 13th place and Hannah Escobedo finished in 15th place.

“This was a great experience for the girls. This competition is like no other,” said Coach Robinson. “Our ladies represented our school with pride, and all worked very hard to get here as State competitors. Yes, they were disappointed, but that just gave them more incentive to work harder for the next session.”

Incredible work, Powerlifting Teams! Best of luck to the Boys at State!
