The ever-talented Frenship High School Theater students are gearing up for the Bi-District One Act Play Contest after sweeping the competition at district. The team of 24 students consisting of 16 actors, 4 crew, and 4 alternates, has been working on perfecting their performance since January.
The cast brought home a district championship, with all three judges giving them a 1st place ranking. The students performed spectacularly and truly brought justice to their characters.
The group performed “The Hands of Its Enemy”, which follows a deaf playwright, Marietta, as she goes through the process of producing a play of her life story. Howard, the director, has recently gone through alcohol rehabilitation and is directing his first play in years. The audience watches as Marietta is forced to confront her past, not as she has written it but as it truly happened. As she navigates the abuse of her childhood and the hard truth of her father's death, the audience watches as an unlikely pair becomes bound together through the journey of this play.
“It is our goal as directors to show these kiddos the power of theatre and the healing it can bring to people,” said Frenship One Act Play Director Jacob Lierman. “There are so many that face domestic violence and this show gives them a voice, and our students are seeing first-hand what it means to inspire. Awards are great, but that is not why we do what we do, we create to move people and hopefully change hearts in the process.”
In addition to the District Champion trophy, the group earned a handful of individual awards.

The One Act Play team will compete in the Bi-District contest this Friday. The contest will be held at the FHS Performing Arts Center and is open to audiences. The first show will be performed at 9:00 a.m. There is a $5 entry fee.
