Frenship High School Band, Orchestra, and Choir Students Receive High Honors at UIL Texas State Solo and Ensemble Contests

Frenship is proud to have so many dedicated, passionate, and talented students in the Fine Arts Program. At the end of the school year, students in band, orchestra, and choir competed at the annual UIL Texas State Solo and Ensemble contest. There, the students represented Frenship proudly bringing home dozens of gold medals and honors.

A very remarkable award was given to five Frenship High School students for their impressive musicianship. Two band students and three choir students were awarded the "Outstanding Performer Award," recognizing their exceptional musical skill.

“Each year at the UIL State Solo & Ensemble Contest, the UIL allows each judge to choose one performer each day as the UIL Outstanding Performer,” said Scott Carter, Frenship High School Director of Bands. “From the thousands of entries state-wide, those chosen as a UIL Outstanding Performer are recognized by the judges as a student who exhibited outstanding musicianship in a performance above and beyond that of any other performer that day.”

Congratulations to Ryder Day and Jacob Fout in band and Madilyn Sallee, Shelby Stidham, and Sarah Williams in choir for receiving the UIL Outstanding Performer award.

The Frenship High School Band had an impressive showing with 154 Division One medals earned and 89 students securing their spot at the State Solo and Ensemble Contest. Of those Frenship students who competed, 41 earned gold, silver or bronze medals, with some earning multiple medals. This also included students who competed in Twirling.

The Frenship High School Choir had 75 students competing against students from across the area to advance to the state contest. After a long day of competition, 55 Frenship soloists and four ensembles were awarded Division 1 ratings and advanced to state. At the state contest 55 students were awarded gold, silver, or bronze medals with some earning multiple medals.

In Frenship’s newest Fine Arts program, there were eight orchestra students who competed at the UIL Solo and Ensemble Contest at Talkington School for Young Women Leaders. With only five months of instruction on their instruments, all eight students earned superior ratings at the Solo and Ensemble Contest with one qualifying for state. Another student also competed at the state contest in piano.
