Frenship Tennis Team Wraps up Fall Season

The fall competition season for the Tiger Tennis Team has come to a close, and the team is reminiscing on the good moments and helpful lessons they took away from the season. Assistant Coach Shelby May is happy with how the team persevered and the growth they demonstrated.

“The team showed great determination and resilience throughout the season. While we faced several challenges, it gave us an opportunity to identify areas for growth and come together as a team,” said Coach May. “Every match taught us something new, and we made consistent efforts to improve with each match.”

Despite losing a talented senior class last year, younger players stepped up and worked hard, helping the team secure 4th place in the district and make it to the playoffs.

“Every match was a learning experience, and while we faced tough competition, the progress we made has our coaching staff excited about the future,” said Coach May.

The team’s chemistry has improved and grown during this past season. Having strong chemistry is crucial in tennis, where individual matches contribute to the overall team result.

“Our coaching staff witnessed young players step up, be coachable, willing to learn and work hard,” said Coach May. “We have also seen varsity returners be key in tough matches but also be great teammates to these new varsity players.”

With strong communication, support, hard work, and trust between players, the Tigers have bonded closer together on and off the court.

“Throughout the season, the team has grown closer, learning to encourage each other after tough matches and celebrate victories together,” said Coach May. “This team chemistry has helped players stay motivated and maintain a positive team atmosphere, even during challenging moments. It’s made the Tiger tennis team stronger as a group, and that connection will be key as we continue to improve and compete in future seasons.”

One of the key lessons that the team is carrying with them to prepare for the next season is building on mental toughness and having a focused mindset.

“Players with strong mental toughness can push through frustration, stay calm under pressure, and continue to fight for every point, which often leads to turning matches around or staying competitive against stronger opponents,” said Coach May. “Our players also learned this year that having a focused mindset means being fully present in each moment of the match, concentrating on the next point rather than getting distracted by previous mistakes or worrying about the outcome.”

All in all, the Tigers enjoyed the season and are excited for what’s to come in the spring.

“Overall, we will take every learning experience forward and we eagerly look forward to the spring tournaments and hosting district on our home courts in late April,” said Coach May. “And as always, our coaching staff says, “IT’S A GREAT DAY TO BE A TIGER!”
