This has been a rebuilding season for the Frenship High School Girls Golf Team after a successful team last year, but the Tigers are underway for another bright future as they continue to grow, improve, and showcase their dedication to the sport.
With only one returning member from last year's District Championship team, the fall presented an opportunity for younger players to gain valuable experience, and the Tigers stepped up to the plate.
The team competed in four tournaments during the fall, earning runner-up finishes in two of them. This young team has shown their potential and resilience by taking on some of the toughest tournaments in the region and making their mark. Additionally, the varsity second team, primarily freshmen, secured top five finishes in three tournaments.
“I was very pleasantly surprised at how our younger players responded this season,” said Head Coach Roger Whipkey. “Their work ethic and willingness to go above and beyond have been key factors in our success and continued improvement.”
Looking ahead to the spring, the team has big goals to secure both first and second place in the District Tournament, ensuring that both teams advance to Regionals. Confidence is high as the players continue to put in long hours refining their skills.
According to Coach Whipkey, competition within the team is driving everyone to excel.
“After the holidays, we’ll requalify for the first team, and there will be a dogfight for those spots,” he said. “This kind of competition makes everyone better.”
The Frenship Girls Golf Team will kick off their spring season with their first tournament in early February. Stay tuned for updates as these talented golfers continue to represent Frenship with pride and excellence. Click here for more information on Frenship Girls Golf.
