If you’ve been keeping up with Frenship Football, the name Leyton Stone should ring a bell. Stone played a vital role throughout his high school career on the Frenship Football team. Stone posted three consecutive 1,000 plus yard seasons, the first receiver in Frenship history to do so.
Stone is the first 4,000-yard receiver in Frenship history amassing 4,321 yards and 66 touchdowns on 229 receptions, all new school records. This season he had an impressive 29 touchdown receptions, breaking another school record. Stone also had five games in his career where he caught 4 touchdown passes.
Stone helped to lead the Tigers to their first 10-win season since 2013, and first outright District Championship since 2014. According to 247Sports, Stone is the 99th ranked wide receiver recruit in the nation for 2025.
He has been an All-District player for three straight years, last year he was an All-State Receiver, and this year he was voted as the District 2-6A Offensive MVP. Additionally, he held a leadership role as the team captain this season, a position that is elected by his teammates.
Stone will continue playing the game he loves at Texas Tech University. Frenship High School Head Football Coach Jay Northcutt feels honored to have coached Stone and is excited for his future endeavors.
“He’s leaving us with many memorable moments. We’ve had a lot of great memories over the years,” said Coach Northcutt. “I’ve enjoyed watching him go from being a young buck as a sophomore learning the ropes to being one of the most vocal influential leaders of our team. I’ve also enjoyed watching him go from the typical young silly kid coming out of middle school to one of the most driven, elite mindset players that I’ve been around in my career.”
A few of Stone’s favorite parts about being on the Frenship Football Team were the friendships formed and the family atmosphere.
“During my time at Frenship I was able to be surrounded by players that helped me be great. One of my favorite parts about being in the Frenship Football Program has definitely been the chemistry. The bond that we had was different. I’ve never experienced a team like we had this year. We were seven points away from being a future state champion,” said Stone.
Coach Northcutt feels proud to have Stone as an athlete and commends his leadership on and off the field.
“Leyton has been a great leader for us, a great teammate. He has a great work ethic, and he always brings a great attitude,” said Northcutt. “He has some special skills, aside from being a great athlete, he can talk to anyone at any time. I’ve even seen him have a long conversation after a long bus ride with bus driver Coach Curtis. I doubt Leyton remembers that, but I guarantee Coach Curtis remembers it.”
Stone is looking forward to starting practice with the Red Raiders. Being on the Texas Tech Football Team has been a dream of his for a long time.
“I am most excited to be able to run out of the tunnel for the first time in red and black. I’ve watched that since I was little, I’ve been in here my whole life and it’s just something that I’ve always wanted to do and somewhere I’ve always wanted to be,” said Stone.
