Frenship ISD is proud to welcome C.J. Villegas as the new Head Boys Basketball Coach at Frenship Memorial High School. Coach Villegas previously served as the Assistant Varsity Basketball Coach for Frenship High School during the 2019–2020 school year, and he’s excited to return to a district that holds a special place in his heart. 

With 18 years of experience in education and 17 years as a head basketball coach, Villegas brings a wealth of leadership, passion, and proven success to the new program. He most recently served as the Athletic Director and Head Boys Basketball Coach at Brady ISD, and he’s excited to bring his expertise and energy to Frenship ISD. 

"Frenship ISD has a strong tradition of excellence within their athletic programs, and the opportunity to start a new program here is something truly special,” said Villegas. “I’m excited about working with the student-athletes and building something we can all be proud of. Honestly, I can’t think of a better place to start a new program.” 

Throughout his career, Coach Villegas has guided teams to numerous playoff appearances, including Bi-District Championships, Area Titles, and a trip to the State Semifinals. His experience spans across several Texas school districts including San Angelo Central, Hereford, Olton, Coleman, and Trent. He has also served on multiple athletic committees and leadership boards, including the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches and the Texas High School Coaches Association. 

Beyond the court, Villegas holds a masters degree in Education Sports Administration from Concordia University and a bachelors degree in Exercise and Sports Studies from McMurry University.  

The Villegas family is thrilled to return to the Lubbock area. His wife, Kourtney, and their two sons, Malakai and Azakai are equally excited to join the Frenship family.
