Frenship’s Chase Campbell Signs to Play Football at Texas Tech University

Frenship High School is excited to celebrate football wide receiver Chase Campbell as he continues his football career at Texas Tech University. During his time at Frenship, Campbell has proven his strong athletic abilities throughout many sports, including football, basketball, and track. While excelling across the board, he has decided to pursue football with the Red Raiders.

Frenship High School’s Head Football Coach, Jay Northcutt, first met Chase Campbell in the eighth grade, when Campbell was new to the district.

“I had a chance to go and watch him play basketball,” said Coach Northcutt. “That’s really where I saw the special athlete he was … I heard about his fire, but when I got into the gym, I really saw him stand out as an athlete.”

That summer, Campbell began training with the Frenship program full-time, and Coach Northcutt knew immediately that he was destined for great things.

“He is not only a great athlete, but he’s an even more special person,” said Coach Northcutt. “He’s a great leader, and he’s a great teammate.”

Campbell’s journey to Texas Tech is especially remarkable because he was first recruited in middle school. Texas Tech Head Football Coach Joey McGuire recognized Campbell’s potential early on, extending him an offer when he was still in 8th grade.

For his part, Campbell is excited for the future and is thankful for the opportunities Frenship has provided him.

“The coaches here always taught us to be strong athletes, and even better people,” said Campbell. “That is what I will take with me from Frenship going on to college — to be a better person than I am a player.”

He is especially looking forward to reuniting with Frenship alumni already at Texas Tech.

"I am most looking forward to seeing familiar faces. We have some Frenship Alumni at Tech, so I'll get to play on the same field as them again."

In Coach Northcutt’s 26 years of coaching, he shared that Campbell is one of those players who stands out, not just as an athlete, but as a leader. He is proud to watch him go on to continue a legacy of excellence.

“Chase is one of the best leaders I have ever seen in my career, on top of being a great athlete. He has some amazing stats. He’s one of the top-ranked players not just in the state but in the nation,” said Coach Northcutt.

Campbell finishes his high school career with outstanding numbers and a long list of accolades:

  • 4,475 all-purpose yards
  • 63 total touchdowns
  • Two-time All-State receiver
  • Named 2025 District 2-6A MVP

He also earned recognition for both athletic and academic excellence:

  • Academic All-District
  • District 2-6A First Team Receiver
  • Texas Sports Writers Association All-State team (Wide Receiver – 2nd Team)
  • Texas High School Coaches Association Super Elite Team (Offense)
  • Nominated for the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal Athlete of the Week and Fan Favorite Midseason Player of the Year
  • Nominated for the Dave Campbell's Mr. Texas Football Player of the Week and Whataburger Super Team

As Chase Campbell takes his next steps at Texas Tech, Frenship ISD celebrates not only a top-tier athlete but a committed leader with a strong character. We look forward to cheering him on and watching his continued success both on and off the field.

Congratulations, Chase — we’re proud of you!
