My name is Greg Hernandez, and I am beginning my 37th year in education. The 2026–2027 school year marks my 12th year serving as principal of Frenship High School. Before coming to FHS as principal, I served as principal of Frenship Heritage Middle School from 2011–2015 and as an assistant principal at Frenship High School from 2005–2010.

I am a proud graduate of Roscoe High School. After graduation, I enlisted in the U.S. Army and served for three years. My time in the military taught me invaluable lessons about self-discipline, honor, service, and love of country—values that continue to influence my leadership today.

Following my honorable discharge, I attended Texas Tech University, where I earned a Bachelor of Arts and Science in Education in 1990. I later earned a Master’s in Education from Lubbock Christian University in 2004 and completed my superintendent certification through Texas Tech University in 2006.

Throughout my career, I have been fortunate to serve students in many different roles. I have taught middle school science as well as high school chemistry, biology, and physical science. I have also coached football, basketball, track, and baseball and have served as an athletic director and assistant principal for Slaton ISD. Each of these experiences has helped shape my approach to education and leadership.

I chose a career in education because, aside from my parents, my high school teachers and coaches were among the most influential people in my life. Many of my beliefs about education were shaped by the mentors I had as a young person and early in my career. I believe we must cherish every child who walks through our doors. No two students are identical, but every student is capable of learning and deserves the opportunity to succeed. Education has the power to open doors and create opportunities that can change the course of a young person’s life.

My wife, Shanay, and I have been married for 38 years, and we are blessed with two wonderful children who are both proud Frenship High School alumni. Armand graduated with the Class of 2017, and our youngest graduated with the Class of 2021. Outside of school, I enjoy watching just about any sporting event, spending time with friends, golfing, and fishing.

It is truly an honor and a privilege to serve as principal of Frenship High School. Our students and staff make coming to work each day a tremendous experience. One of the greatest rewards of my career has been seeing firsthand the lasting impact our teachers, coaches, and administrators have on students. Watching former Tigers graduate, pursue their goals, and fulfill their dreams is a powerful reminder of why our work matters.

I cannot think of another profession with a greater opportunity to shape the future than education. Thank you for entrusting us with the opportunity to be part of your child’s life and educational journey. I am grateful to serve this school and community, and I look forward to another outstanding year together.
